pcAnywhere access to Domino server console?

I have a few Domino Servers that I need to access the server console remotely.

In the past, I’ve used pcAnywhere 10.5 (encrypted) connections to connect to the Windows 2000 server host.

Now my remote servers are being hosted on Windows 2003 Servers, and I use pcAnywhere 11.5

The problem is that the refresh rate on this is HORRIBLE. Remote screen locks up, goes black and then comes back to life every few minutes. (HOST screen is fine).

I suspect that this is a Symantec PCAW video issue and not a video driver, Domino or Windows 2003 issue.

But I’d like to hear from others who may have experienced the same issues before I contact Symantec (because I know who they’re going to blame!

Thanks.

Why not use Windows remote desktop?

With 2003 SP1 installed you can define the scope (that is which IP addresses can access via remote desktop).

Use the following switch in the properties of the remote desktop (from your XP client)to see actual server console

%systemroot%\system32\mstc.exe /console

Thanks for the tip.

I actually use Terminal Services/Remote Desktop as a backup, but I had not known of a way to see the live Domino Server session remotely.

I’ve tried your switch and had no luck (can get to a session showing the Windows Server desktop, but not the Domino Server console).

Is there something other than adding the " /console" switch to my Remote Desktop path that I need to do?

Thanks.

Another way to see the Domino console through remote desktop is to add the line: connect to console:i:1 to the end of the .rdp file.

Neither your suggestion “add connect to console:i:1” nor Patrick’s “/console” switch are working for me.

Maybe I have security settings set too high?

From Windows XP Start - All Programs - Accessories - Communications - Reomte Desktop Connection.

Make a shortcut for remote desktop connection on your desktop. Then go into properties and add the /console switch.

This will let you view the domino console just like you were directly attached.

Just like before, no luck.

If you are only seeking domino remote console upon accessing these servers, why not just create connection documents and access them via the domino admin remote console?

Need to take care of the host (Windows) server as well (i.e. check Event Logs, keep an eye on Anti-Virus software, modify NIC settings, etc.)

Lot more to taking care of a Lotus Domino Server than just Domino.

Thanks anyway.
