Is it possible for someone to connect to a domino server with a outlook client and send and receive mails through the domino server. ie. what Im trying to achieve is for some people to use outlook to send and receive mails but both incomming and outgoing mail must be stored in the users DB on the domino server. My question is, is this possible? if so with what, MAPI connecter? What needs to be configured for this to work on the server?

…it’s the long and new name for iNotes for Outlook. This product indeed uses IMAP to connect an Outlook client to a Domino server. It wasn’t that good in R5, but has gotten significantly better in ND6.5. Check the Release Notes for more information. In short, you’ll need to use the Extended Mailtemplate, run IMAP on the Domino server, and create an account in Outlook for the Domino server.

In order to accomplish what you are asking you need to connect to your Domino server using either POP3 or IMAP. I recommend IMAP so that the message remains in the domino database instead of just getting downloaded to the local client. If you are going to use IMAP you need to convert the mail file to include the IMAP headers using the convert command on each mail file. In both cases their is a server process that needs to be running to recognize the attempt to attach to the domino server. You use the internet user id and internet password on the individuals’s person document for authentication purposes.

I just installed Outlook 2002, installed the connector, set up my account information, and tested mail and C&S functions all in less than an hour. This connector is client based. It’s fast, simple, and pretty much transparent to the user. It does require that the user have a Notes ID, though.
