Outgoing mail problem

I can’t send mail to a specific external domain.

Here is an extract from the server log:

01/15/2007 16:30:15 Router: [0000000C] Transferring mail to domain AN_EXTERNAL_DOMAIN.COM (host XX.AN_EXTERNAL_DOMAIN xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx]) via SMTP

01/15/2007 16:30:23 Router: No messages transferred to AN_EXTERNAL_DOMAIN.COM (host XX.AN_EXTERNAL_DOMAIN.COM via SMTP

01/15/2007 16:30:24 Router: Error transferring message 00550C76 via SMTP to XX.AN_EXTERNAL_DOMAIN,XX2.AN_EXTERNAL_DOMAIN OF11F968E1:6427BF54 ONC1257264:00550C76 550 5.7.1 The IP address yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy was rejected for policy reasons (0x2).

yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy is the public IP address of our firewall

The user sending the mail gets a delivery failure message:

Error transferring to XX2.AN_EXTERNAL_DOMAIN; SMTP Protocol Returned a Permanent Error 550 5.7.1 The IP address yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy was rejected for policy reasons (0x2).

In the past, I was able to send messages to that specific domain.

We changed nothing to our server’s configuration.

I searched the forum for error 550 and/or 5.7.1 and “policy errors” but found nothing.

Can anybody help ?

Subject: Outgoing mail problem

You can check the codes like 5.7.1 using http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc1893.txt

5.7.1. means

Delivery not authorized, message refused. The sender is not authorized to send to the destination. This can be the result of per-host or per-recipient filtering. This memo does not discuss the merits of any such filtering, but provides a mechanism to report such. This is useful only as a permanent error.

This could mean that you are blacklisted. This you could check at e.g. http://www.robtex.com/rbls.html
