Outgoing mail now shows as Notes domain in Internet address

This one is a puzzler…

I’ve got a server that I upgraded to ND6.0.1-CF1 just over a week ago (from R5.0.11). The upgrade went so easy, that it actually impressed me!

Exactly one week after upgrading, the outgoing mail now shows the Notes name in the outgoing internet address. However, for the past week, it was running just like it should with the short name as the outgoing Internet address. Since I didn’t change a thing, and since it was working fine for the entire week… this is a puzzle.

Expected:

name@isp.com

What comes out:

first_last/SD/Company@isp.com

It really doesn’t make sense why it would wait exactly one week before acting up. I mean, it was working flawlessly since day one after the upgrade.

Any ideas?

Well remember me Release 5 with R4 clients.

Have you modified you configuration Document.

Verify All your configuration documents:

under the MIME Tab, sub-Tab conversion Options, sub-tab Outpur (well ia m in 6.

0.1 CF1 FR soti I am translating…

In the last field should read " Internet search Address…" put it enabled if not the case. A second field should appear (exhaustvie search, leave it to disabled.

Then: te router update config, te smtp update config (should better use the Administrator equivalent).

Always verify:

  • Global Domain document are correctly set

  • Internet address (for people) correctly set

  • Configurations Document correctly set (take care about the All servers document.

Hope it helps.

I don’t know what the fix is (though I seem to remember it being discussed in this forum before) but I can tell you why it may suddenly have happened after a week - the Administration Process (AdminP). There are some tasks which have a default schedule of weekly and whatever caused your problem was probably one of those.

I like the idea about ADMINP being the reason that things took a week to go south (OK, well I guess I should’t say that I like it, but it does make sense).

I’ve checked all my server, domain, etc., docs, and all appear to be exactly as they should be. So, either I’m missing something obvious, or there’s another problem.

The workaround is to have folks go into the advanced options tab when sending a message, and input their internet address. I tried it with the location document (which used to override with R5), but it seems to ignore the settings there too… just have to do it when sending. This works, but is a nuisance, so this one will tax users’ patience I’m afraid.

I did discover one other piece of the perceived puzzle… there’s still a R4.6.7 server replicating with this server. That old server was down at the time of the upgrade, so didn’t consider that one before. I’m going to look into getting that one out of the picture for the moment.

My hunch is that something is currently corrupt and the settings are somehow not being used/recognized. Current plan is to take the server down over the weekend and fixup the directory/nab.

Stay tuned!

You might want to check your server document for the entry called “fully qualified domain name”. I believe it’s either the first or second tab.
