Outbound Mac attachment conversion in Notes 6

Hello everyone,

This problem is along the lines of the previous thread regarding file compression.

In the location document for Notes 6, for example Office, there are MIME settings for Outbound Mac file conversion. One is BinHex, and the other is AppleDouble.

When our users (running OS X 10.2.3) attached files when it was set to BinHex, the files would arive compressed with a .hqx extension to both internal and external e-mail clients. If the setting was changed to AppleDouble, the files would arrive uncompressed, but PC users would not be able to simply double-click and have the file open. They would need to open a specific app. and open the file from there. It’s almost as if the file lost its resource fork or something similar

Has anyone else seen this kind of behavior? If so, is there a client or server fix, or is this a bug?

Thanks!

Are your users putting extensions on the files? You didn’t really say one way or the other except with “.hqx”. PCs need extensions to know how to handle a document - they don’t know about the resource fork. An easy extension example is .xls for Excel files, so your file named “MacExcel” would be named “MacExcel.xls”.

We are having the exact same problem. Have you found a solution to that problem. Try testing it using internet mail(yahoo, hotmail, etc). I tried that and it seemed to work fine.

Notes is doing something to those files… but it only happens to .doc .bmp… that I know of.

.xls .pdf are fine.

When MAC clients send an e-mail with certain types of attachments( DOC, PLN, BMP), they arrive twice(the right file and a smaller one that is not openable). If i send DWG, XLS, PDF files all works correctly, only the right file is sent.

I’m unable to find a solution.
