I cannot get notes 8.5 Public Beta 1 working correctly on Mac OS X 10.5.4. Everything I do produced a NSD.
This is a clean install of 10.5.4 with all the security patches and updates installed via Software Update. Also installed in iLife 08, iWork 08 and VMWare Fusion.
After installing 8.5 PB1 and going through the initial setup process I can’t do many things without generating a NSD.
Rightclicking anywhere causes an NSD.
Opening the sidebar and clicking the ‘Offline’ dropdown menu in the Sametime panel causes an NSD.
In my mailfile clicking the ‘Show’ action menu to try hide the preview pane causes an NSD.
The weird thing is I have the same setup on my iMac at home and it’s working perfectly. It’s driving me crazy.
Subject: We are aware of this issue, this is caused by a VMWare Fusion bug.
Thanks for reporting the issue!
We are aware of this issue, Mac Notes 8.5 beta conflicts with VMWare Fusion 2 Beta 2. Mac Notes may crash(especially on right clicking to show context menus) if you have VMWare Funsion 2 installed, and this is caused by a VMWare Fusion 2 bug - 1127336055.
To workaround this issue, you need uninstall VMWare Fusion. To uninstall VMWare Fusion, you need uninstall the VMWare Fusion program first, and then remove file /Library/Contextual Menu Items/FusionVMDKPlugIn.plugin.
Subject: I also bug reported this to VMWare.
I discovered the cause to this issue yesterday as noted in the thread above this one.
I also opened a bug report at VMWare : 1128341072
Subject: removing the plugin fixes the problem, and Fusion still works

This is our bug (PR 311315), it’s fixed internally. No workaround other than deleting the plugin (I don’t think you need to uninstall Fusion).
VMware policy is to not discuss timelines, so we can’t say exactly when a fix will be available.

Confirmed by several reports - removing the plugin fixes the problem, and Fusion still works.
I presume it’ll make it into either the next beta or the product ion version though (i.e. that it’s been vetted forinclusion in the next build)?

Yep!
