It is even fatter and slower than Thunderbird.

When is Notes 9.0 coming and will it be better ?

Thunderbird is a stand alone Email client while Lotus Notes is a web/Notes client that handles much more than just email. It is an apples to oranges comparison.
That being said you don’t say whether your using the Standard or Basic client and what measurements are you using.
Subject: How fast
How fast do you wanna have it. Maybe it is your machine which is too slow. I got not issues with performance on my machine.
Do you compare Notes and Thunderbird - is that possible?
Subject: Eclipse Helios and Notes 9.0
Eclipse Helios is out now, and that brings hope. It’s much faster and leaner than previous Eclipse release. Now IBM just needs to get Notes 9.0 ready, running on the Eclipse Helios foundation. I guess things will improve then.
Office 2010 is also faster and leaner than Office 2007. Also Microsoft starts to understand that software design is changing…
But the world is turning really quick and we start getting migration offerings from Google too, and this does not look too bad… quite nice cloud offerings.
I know Apples, Oranges and Bananas…
