Is it possible to use the OpenNTF template as my main mail db in Notes 6, while still maintaining the default Notes 5 mail db template? We use 5 as our email. I am looking at 6.5 as testing on the client and would like to replace the design of the mail template with the OpenNTF template. When I tried it before it screwed up the mail template on 5 locally and I had to replace from the server. Can I replace the mail template in 6.5 client w/o “harming” the 5 template? Skip

There’s no reasonable way to do this in the mode you’re talking about. How would you use the OpenNTF template without using the OpenNTF template?
Subject: RE: OpenNTF Question
I guess that did seem circular…What I would like to do is replace the design of the mail file used by 6.5 from mail5/sbrandon.nsf to your OpenNtf template without affecting the mail5/sbrandon.nsf used by Notes 5.
Subject: Thats not possible
Your mailfile “mail5/sbrandon.nsf” can only reference ONE design at a time. The only way to work around this would be to keep multiple replicas with different designs. For example, you could have a local replica of your mailfile for your R5 client and a server-based replica with the R6 or OpenNTF template used by the R6 client, etc. You’d just have to make sure to not replicate the design, just the data notes between them.

How important is it to you to do this? It’s going to be a major headache to maintain two different designs on your mail. Even working locally, you’re going to have to carefully manage your ACLs to ensure you don’t propagate the OpenNTF template to the R5 server.
