I’m experiencing real problems with users opening attachments on XP machines.
The scenario:-
XP with Notes 6 Client
Users “priveleges” on XP machine set to “restricted” to prevent them from installing software etc.
.pdf file is mailed to user.
whne attempting to open the attachment a message box appears telling the user tha an application cannot be found with which to open it EVEN THOUGH pdf viewer is installed and can be used to open the attachment if it is saved first and opened via the pdf viewer.
IF - you change the users XP priveleges to administrator - all works fine but it is not acceptable to give the users admin rights.
I am experiencing the exact same issue. I hope that someone in Lotus Development notices these posts and is working to address this issue. We have removed local administrator rights for our users so they can’t install unauthorized software. Our users can save the attachment locally and open it but cannot launch the attachment from Notes. Not all of our users are savvy enough to find the attachment once they have saved it. The launch feature is essential and yet I don’t want to compromise our PC security. This issue does appear to be isolated to only XP. Windows 2000 does not cause the same issue.
