Open Relaying!-
Is there any thing what ISP has to do?
we have set the configuration document in messeging (inbound restriction controls etc) but even then one of my client’s domino is open relaying from hinet.net and many others.
My question is that the ISP role in blocking the mail relaying?
thanx
Subject: I don’t get it
What you’re saying is your customers’ server is relaying mail even though the SMTP config is set correctly? Could you give some details, as to what’s entered in wich fields, and maybe a header of a message that got relayed?
I’m not seeing this!
Subject: here is the details
Configuration - > Messeging Settings - > Restriction and Controls - > SMTP Inbound Controls - > (2nd field): Deny messages to be sent to the following external internet domains: (* means all) - > I have put an astric “*” there.
In the first and third field I have mentioned the domain.com of my company
Even then we are being heavily attacked by Open relaying.

Subject: inbound
remember, these are inbound relay controls. I wouldn’t put my own domain name in the first and third field. If I try to relay a message over your server, and use a faked.address@yourdomain.tld as sender, the server probably will relay it for me even though I’m not really in your domain.
If you have other internal SMTP servers, you can put their IP addresses in the third field, enclosed in square brackets: [10.0.140.50]. And you definitely need a * in the fourth field!
There’s another possibility: someone is sending out spam with a faked.address@yourdomain.tld as sender address. That would cause all the non deliverable messages to be routed to your server, and may cause a lot of dead mail in your mail.boxes. That may give the impression that your server is used to route spam, but in fact you’re only getting NDR’s.

Dear Wolfswink…
probably this is the case . my server is being used for NDRs … so do u have any solution for that… please let me know…
thanx
Subject: Only accept mail for existing addresses
Configuration document, tab Router/SMTP, tab Restrictions and Controls, tab SMTP Inbound Controls, enable the third field from the bottom (Verify that local domain recipients exist in the Domino Directory:). Ignore the field help by this field, it’s not correct. If you enable this feature, the server will only accept email messages for users that are actually listed in your Domino Directory. All mail to bogus addresses (your dead mail) will be rejected.
And why would you want to accept messages for non-existing users
Subject: We’re suffering too
We’ve got the configs exactly as Lotus have told us, but we’re still getting hit. We have a support call with them, as Lotus support have been able to reproduce the problem using our address book (our domain’s mostly 6.03). They’ve passed it back to Development in the states, but no news yet.
If anyone can help with a solution, please post something, before I tear all my hair out
