Open message in outlook causes notes startup

Here’s a real poser. (Not sure this is the right forum, but it involved both products)

We’re moving off of Lotus notes to Exchange. A user who was migrated recently is having an interesting problem;

They are in the outlook client.

If they open a message from a user who is still on the notes server, and open the message in a separate window, Lotus Notes gets started up, the open file dialogue kicks off and says it can’t find some file.

If they open the message again, this will not happen.

If they open the message using the preview pane, this does not happen.

They are not clicking on any hotspots, urls, or doclinks. They are simply double clicking on a message in outlook from a notes person.

Any ideas?

Mark,

my company recently moved our messaging from Notes to Exchange and we experienced something similar. What we found was that when a user still on Notes email sent an email to an Outlook user, there was a little doclink included in the email which pointed back to the original emailer’s Notes mail file. The bad news is that we found no way around it - the problem disappeared once we migrated all our users to Outlook.

Exchange is her default client (That was the first thing I checked)

The doclink part makes sense. Since I’m the administrator and can open any notes database, this never posed me a problem. Since the user having the problem is not, then there’s no way she can open the message.

Now the $64 question…

Why do some messages sent from Lotus Notes contain this doclink pointing to the message itself, and others do not?

Subject: Answer to the $64 question

The doclink is inserted just below the subject line in a field called; tmpdoclink if you’re using a reply form. Probably so folks can keep track of email threads (though it’s sort of silly as most folks protect their mail from others so the link serves no useful purpose)

If there’s a field $HideMailHeaders defined, then that link won’t show.

Now the next $64 question is how does that variable get defined? What other effects would defining it have? I don’t see anywhere in the mail template where it actually gets set.

Guess I’ll just have to poke around here a bit more…

Thanks for y’all’s response!
