Open database error: File does not exist

Using Notes Client 6.5.3 to open a database but I get an error saying: File does not exist. This is a mail archive database that has been working fine until recently. The file is 1.6G in size and I can see in Windows Explorer and DOS. I can copy it and I can move it to other directories. I’ve tried using nfixup.exe, nupdall.exe and ncompact.exe against the file and each report the same message: File does not exist. I’m having a hard time accepting that the file is just “gone” since it seems that it still does exist but just that Notes can’t open it. Any ideas on how to fix the file or use another tool to open it?

Thanks, William

Try to use the notes.ini variables below:

Client_Clock=1

Debug_Outfile=c:\temp\noteslog.txt

restart the Notes Client and redo the operation, you should have some useful information in the noteslog.txt file. Paste the content of the file in this forum if you need more help.

I appreciate the suggestion but unfortunately, the only information in the log file is a header which reads:

noteslog_DEL560_2005_03_07@8_15_01.txt

This looked like it could be a file name of sorts so I searched my hard drive for this but didn’t find anything.

For the archive file, there are not only archive file, every archive file should be have a log file with it, please make sure the log file is exist and corrupted.

Did you try opening it directly from the file system? If it opens there, and not from within Notes, then it is probably just your archive settings that need to be changed to point to the file.

Sorry if I wasn’t clear… I’m trying to open the database from the file system; by right clicking in the Workspace and selecting Open Database. I browse to where the file is, hit Open, then get a dialog box that says, “File does not exist”. But it does! There must be some kind of corruption but I don’t know how to fix it.
