Just upgraded my notes client on my Domino Server. Before, when I went to open a database, the default location that it would look to when “local” was selected was d:\notes\data. Now, after the upgrade, it looks at c:\program files\lotus\notes\data. I want it to look in D:\notes\data when local is selected.
How do I do this? I tried changing the FileDlgDirectory in the notes.ini, but that didn’t help.

FileDlgDirectory sets the directory that is used when you perform functions such as attaching files. Directory= sets the data directory default. If your Directory= line is pointing to the wrong place, the installer probably installed files to the wrong directory as well. You can try switching the Directory= line to your other drive, but you’ll want to make sure the files in D:\Notes\Data match the client version that’s installed.

I tried that but I get an error message “you cannot use the administrator program while the Domino Server is running”

Why are you using the Notes client in conjunction with the domino server? IF you have the domino server on a NT box then just type NLNOTES.EXE (if notes directory is in the path) in the run box to launch Lotus Notes. Otherwise just go to the directory where nlnotes.exe is and execute it.
Technically speaking (Just the book answer) you don’t want to have the client and server on the same machine. There are people who have succeeded, but if you just need the client then i would suggest NLNOTES.

It sounds like you’re running Notes in the server directory, which isn’t supported anyway.
You should install the server and the client(s) into different program and data directories.
