In version 8.0.x, it was possible to enable/disable the ooo in a mailbox in the designer client.
When I started the 8.5 version, I could not find this feature. Is it gone, or did I miss it.

Just for my understanding of how you used Designer, what did you do exactly? Just turn on the agent from the agent list? How did you specify when to start and end the vacation period?
The OOO agent is still there and can be enabled, however if the server has been configured to run OOO service enabling the agent would create a very confusing situation for the end user.
Exactly what happens would depend on what user did to set up parameters, and whether the OOO service got activated. If both were enabled than the service will actually do the work, but the user would get a request to turn off the agent at the end of the period as well (since it does not turn off automatically).
I would recommend against trying to manipulate OOO without using the client UI which determines the configuraiton, and turns on the appropriate mechanism.
