I had a conversation yesterday with the Open Records coordinator at Oklahoma State University who concurred that the discussion forum relating to their migration from Notes to Exchange are indeed considered to be official records/documents.
As such, the posts that had been deleted that were critical of the decision have been returned to the forum. I think they do not want a can of worms opened if they can help it.

So, is OSU only using e-mail? Do they have no applications built in Domino? I read some of the posts, looks like they do have some web sites, couldn’t tell if they had any other applications.
Be interesting to keep track of this whole situation, see what happens in the long run.

I have been following this topic for a while, and as a total outsider with know knowledge of their environment… I have a couple of questions.
How can the TCO for Exchange be less, if they still have 35,000 apps running on Domino. Even in they only had 10 they will still need Domino servers, admins, developers to maintain.
All they seem to have done is moved from 1 liscence for mail and apps to 2… How cha that be cheaper. Add to that all the virus / downtine they might experience…
Has there been a political shift in the I.T dept, normally when you see a shift like this its due to a new CTO etc.
If they just used Notes for mail then you could probably see a TCO saving… but…
I would love to see the cost of migrating their Notes/Domino apps …

TCO is the most mercilessly twisted and meaningless “statistic” in the business. It has no basis in reality and reflects only the assumptions, biases and slant of the individual(s) who cite it.

This is generally the impetus behind ALL such unnecessary, pointless and absurdly expensive technology “about faces”. There’s no valid business reason for this sort of effort - only political clashes won and lost.

Yes they do have some Notes / Domino applications. Some Domino-based sites are staying for the moment because – funnily enough – they have no migration plan in hand for these.

I don’t think it’s accurate to say that OSU doesn’t have a migration plan for their Notes/Domino applications. I’d bet it’s more fair to say they have a “wither and die” migration plan.
