It seems like Domino 7.0.2 can run fine on XP Pro (anyone tested 64-bit XP?). The next cheapest license is ~$475 for 2003 Web Edition (max. 2 CPUs). The max. 2-CPUs is fine… just 1-U servers. ~$350 more than the XP Pro license. I don’t see where the huge advantage is… anyone done this? The other piece (reason I’m having to use Windows!!!)… I need to run Quickplace. Why is there no QP for Linux!!! We run Domino/Suse here w/o issues OR OS cost. Just interested…

Well… looks like the Domino + QP will not work (thanks to QP). The Domino server works fine… there seems to be a disconnect re: companion products. Domino/Linux shops want to run companion products on Linux, too. Please IBM…

First off, support - IBM will not support the use of a Domino server on a client OS (Windows XP, this case). Yes, it will work, but if something goes wrong that you can’t resolve, you are own your own.
Second, compatibility - Domino will run on XP, but QP and Sametime won’t.
As for SuSE without cost - what version? SuSE Linux Enterprise Server costs money. It and Red Hat Enterprise, the other supported Linux server OS, cost $$$ to license as well.
Linux - IBM has publicly stated that they are working on versions of QP and Sametime that run on Linux. They may even be working on a version of Sametime that runs inside Websphere, or something like that. Only makes since, since most all the ST processes are actually servlets.

Thanks… any idea re: time on QP/ST Linux server releases? I use the free Suse Linux distros (not enterprise) and it works like a charm (Domino at least). It would be nice to see all companion products (at least server products) on Linux. I’ll have to go 2003 Web Edition for now… at least for QP.

No, no one has a timeline yet, though we may see something by the middle of next year.

Maybe there will be an announcement at Lotusphere… one can only hope! Thanks…
