Office 2007 "Send To" grayed out

We are running Lotus Notes client 6.5.1 and Office 97 (yes, I know that it is very old…) and the “Sent To” from Office works without any problem.

Now we are upgrading to Office 2007 and the “Send To” is grayed out after the installation of Office 2007.

A workaround is to re-install Lotus Notes 6.5.1 after Office 2007 is installed, then “Send To” isn’t grayed out any longer and works fine.

I can’t see this as a Notes problem but our Office 2007 project thinks otherwise…

Anyone experienced the same problem, anyone got a solution (other than re-install Lotus Notes) ?.

The only obvious thing I can think of is making sure that the default mail client is still set to Notes after installation of Office 2007.

Subject: Solution: Office 2007 “Send To” grayed out

Since Outlook is the only mail client in the Microsoft world then the installation of Office 2007 defaults the mailto-settings in Windows Registry to Outlook.

With the registry keys below the mailto-settings are reset to fit Lotus Notes as they were before the Office 2007 installation, we run these registry keys as a part of our customized Office 2007 installation package.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail]

@=“Lotus Notes”

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto\DefaultIcon]

@=“C:\Program Files\lotus\notes\notes.exe,0”

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto\shell]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto\shell\open]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto\shell\open\command]

@=“C:\Program Files\lotus\notes\notes.exe %1”

I found this Microsoft KB article about a similar problem with 2003:http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;834008&Product=off2003

In the solution nothing talks about Notes.

I am pasting here an extract from it:

Locate and then click the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Messaging Subsystem registry key.

You should have the following registry values listed in the Windows Messaging Subsystem key:

Name Type Data

MAPI REG_SZ 1

CMC REG_SZ 1

CMCDLLNAME REG_SZ Mapi.dll

CMCDLLNAME32 REG_SZ Mapi32.dll

MAPIX REG_SZ 1

MAPIXVER REG_SZ 1.0.0.1

OLEMessaging REG_SZ 1

This is what has worked for me.
