Number of servers in a cluster

Is the maximum number of servers allowed in a cluster still 6 with R.8.5.1? Working on a mail migration need to add 3 servers to an existing cluster of 5 servers housing 10K users in order to get the users consolidated and migrated. The end state will be 3 clusters with 2 servers each but I need (would like) to get 8 servers in a cluster so the users can be consolidated while still providing fail over.

Subject: No Max, but there is a lot to consider…See Technote:

Good Afternoon Robert,

There is no maximum, but I recommend:

  1. Review Technote 1320470 - “Determining how many servers to include in a cluster” - which I have included a link to below.

  2. If further questions arise, open a Ticket with the Server Core Team, as they work with Cluster Configurations and have more information on the topic.

I hope this helps - good luck!

Subject: not sure but …

I don’t think 6 was ever a hard limit but more of a recommendation. I’m pretty sure I have heard of people going to 8 with no issues but just make sure the servers have the resources (RAM/CPU) to handle the tasks overhead.
