Is the Update methode of Rich Text supposed to allow refreshing of a RT without having to close and reopen the uidoc ?

No. In early betas they promised this, but in the Gold version they removed it.

It is funny, as I get this question a lot. Actually, I would love to be able to refresh the rich text from the front end, but they couldn’t ever get it stable. I’m afraid they don’t have a lot of resources available to actually fix problems with rich text at IBM.

That explains the problem – resources. Knowing this, IBM should hire you. Have you tried applying for a job at IBM? I know you are an ISV, but… Maybe, somebody at the top is just too proud to approach you to solve their RichText woes and is waiting for you to approach him/her/them with your immeasurable experience. For all the developers out there Ben, just ask IBM to hire you.

I have a pretty thriving business as an ISV, and they don’t have the dollars (or aren’t willing to spend them that way), but I appreciate the sentiment. I would actually be just as happy just working with them to help them solve their problems, but they have a serious case of “not invented here” which makes it difficult. Cheers!

That’s a pity that they have such sentiments. Well, IBM should also realize that Lotus Notes wasn’t “invented” there too.
