Hoping someone can help out. My company offers web access to Notes email. I’ve been using it for years. I just upgraded to Windows Vista, and now it does not work any more. I can log in ok, but now there is a red letter X at the top of the screen where the controls for “reply”, “new memo” and so forth should be. I think it is probably something to do with Java, but can’t quite figure it out. Everything works fine from my wife’s laptop that is still running XP.]
I have tried both IE and Firefox – same result with both.
Thanks!

Java Issue/ActiveX sound like a good place to start. Were you ever prompted to install an activex component. Keep in mind you’ll need admin rights on the machine to do so.

No, I neever was prompted to install an ActiveX component.

try deleting the iNotes6.class in the objects.
Go to internet Options → settings → View Objects.
you should see the inotes6.class there.
Once you have delete the file, relogin to you iNotes again. it should prompt you to install the ActiveX again.
good luck.

Go to internet Options → settings → View Objects.
These instructions must sadly be missing astep for IE 7. There is no immediate “settings” choice right after you go to Internet Options"

Michael,
As far as I know, Vista is not supported with DWA. It works fine for me (I have Vista as well), in both IE and FireFox, but I am using the 7 dwa template. What template are you using? I do know that when I first opened DWA in Vista, I had to reinstall the ActiveX controls.
Subject: RE: Notes Webmail broken on Vista
I don’t know what template I am using – is there a way to find out? I’m just a “regular” user, not in the IT department. What is DWA? is that on the client side, or on the server side?
Thanks.

Have you called your Help Desk?
Subject: RE: Notes Webmail broken on Vista
Vista is not supported at my company. It is my home PC that I am using… I’m hoping that as more people buy new PCs and start using Vista, they will kind of be forced into helping… But for now, i am on my own (well, hopefully someone here will be able to help)

But you can ask your company help desk what mail template is used in your mail file. Unless we know that, we cannot give you a specific answer. Also, are you using IE7?
Subject: RE: Notes Webmail broken on Vista
understood. I’ll check on which mail template is being used next week. Yes, I am using IE7.
Subject: RE: Notes Webmail broken on Vista
If you just simply have your IT support folks reset the “design” of your mailbox database to the DWA7 template, and then use Mozilla Firefox as your browser, it’ll work fine on Vista.
The IE7 browser on Vista has evolved into such a big headache/hassle to use for anything anymore that we discourage its use and won’t expend much effort to support it on our network. If the end user can figure out how to make it work on their own, we’ll let them, but that’s the extent of our support for it.

I just checked and do not have the DWA7 template as you describe. I’m not optimistic about getting the IT dept to make the change…

If you are using a current version of the DWA (Domino Web Access) template, then in the upper left of your browser window you should see a tabbed UI that includes “Welcome”, “Mail”, “Calendar”, “To Do”, “Contacts” and “Notebook”. And the dead giveaway is that near the upper right of your browser window you will see the Lotus logo, followed by “Domino Web Access”, followed by the IBM logo.

I am using IE7 on Vista and DWA version 6.
The popup for installing the Active X control appears and I click to install. Then the new “Hourglass” just sits there. Logging out and then back in has the popup reappear.
I though that UAC might be the issue so I deactivated it but to no avail.
I have not had any issues with the latest version of Firefox(2.0.0.3)

Try disabling the “Protected Mode” in IE7, relaunch and reconnect to DWA. In my case it did prompt for the ActiveX installation and worked fine afterwards.
Subject: RE: Notes Webmail broken on Vista
Protected Mode is disabled and I have gone through the steps you mentioned. I am using iNotes6 DWA. I still get the new hourglass thing over the body of the email

From within your Notes client, click File on the menu bar, then select Database, then select replace design. You will need to know the path to your Template server, but should be able to get this information from your helpdesk. The template I’m using is named DWA 7.0.3, yours should be similar and it must be a version 7 release. Once you locate the template click it then click replace. The status bar at the bottom of the screen will show the progress. Once I replaced my template and restarted my browser, I was able to respond to emails rather than just read them as before and the little red x image in the upper left corner was gone at last.
Hope this helps.
