Notes Standard Client will not load

I’ve been having issues with my Notes 8.5 client, and even Symphony, crashing. I decided to do a complete reinstall and now the client won’t load at all. I can see the tasks running but I never get the client.

I’m a developer and I’m not sure where to start to deal with this issue. I’m ready to give up and go back to 8.0, or maybe even 7. Any ideas?

Subject: Stuff to try

  1. The uninstaller does a poor job of removing Notes from the computer. Back up your ID, names.nsf, desktop, bookmark.nsf, etc. and then delete all the Notes program and data files from the computer.2. Remove the Notes installation and log files from the computer.

  2. I know it sounds scary, but I’ve had to “clean” the registry. Try opening regedit, search for “Lotus” and deleting the first dozen or so Notes-related entries.

  3. Install Notes. I bet it’ll run okay.

Subject: My client stillnwon’t load

I’ve been through this process a few times now. This last time:I used the uninstaller

Deleted every folder and file containing “lotus” or “notes”

Deleted every registry key

Ran a program called ccleaner

I do have copies of the data directories on other drives as a backup. Could that be the issue?

I can see the nlnotes.exe and nsd.exe processes in Task Manager. I can run the standard client.

I’m not sure what to do at this point.

Subject: same problem

I’m having the same problem. nlnotes stays in memory, but no other notes processes will load. Also no messages in technical support folder. It’s just “dead”

Subject: Check the system events in Event Viewer

I had the same problem after some Microsoft updates were installed. Notes, Admin and Designer crashed while start up.

There was an error about DCOM server and an executable to which the system the access denied (EVENT ID 10000). In my case it was C:\WINDOWS\system32\wbem\wmiapsrv.exe.

I had just to correct the security settings of the file. To prevent further problems I replaced the security settings of the files in the wbem folder with the settings of the folder itself (Folder Properties > Security > Advanced > check box “Replace permission…”.

Afterward the applications started up normally.

Subject: some workarounds

I noticed this happens mostly when your Windows Client Crashed while Notes-Full Client 8.5 is running.

seems Eclipse does not like it to get crashed

Solutions:

  1. delete the workspace folder in your local data directory

  2. kill all Notes Tasks : ntaskldr.exe,nevent.exe,nlnotes.exe,nslsvice.exe

these 2 steps will fix the startup Problem 90% of the time.

if this does not work, replace the framework directory in your notes directory, with one of a friend.

if this all does not work deinstall notes, and delete the IBM\lotus folder completlty from C:\Promgram Files, then REBOOT windows and reinstall

kind regards
