Notes Server Task Finds nsf's Outside of Data Directory - Working as Designed?

Hi all …

Whenever I want to make a database unavailable on the server, I move it outside of the Domino server’s data directory. Usually I rename it to have an extension be something other than .nsf. However, just recently I moved a database out of the data directory and forgot to rename it. Somehow, Domino found it, so when I wanted to back it up, Domino had it locked like other databases inside of the data directory, so I couldn’t do anything with it.

Is Domino supposed to do that (find an .nsf that is outside of the data directory and “lock” it in the same way that it locks databases inside of the data directory)?

If Domino is working as designed, is there a way to prevent this from happening if I don’t want to rename the file?

If that folder is being used as a directory link then domino will find it. You can remove the link to the folder or create a new folder outside of the data directory.

Hmmm … I did think of that … however, I do not have directory links of any kind defined on my server.
