Notes routing not working between R 7.0.2 and 8.0.1 domains in same Domino Directory

HiI have a routing problem. Hope someone will take the time to read this, and give advice.

I have en existing 7.0.2 domain “OldDomain” under certifier “OldCert”. There are 2 mail servers in 2 countries, a SameTime server and a DMZ server for Webmail and SMTP main routing. All works fine.

The company has been sold, and all domain name and certifiers should change into “NewDomain” and “NewCert”.

I then build a 8.0.1 server from new and got this working. I cross Certified the 2 domains.

I added the “NewDomain” as a domain under the Global Domain for “OldDomain” in Domino Domains and aliases field.

Then upgraded Names, Adminp and DDM in “OldDomain” to R8 design, copied all documents and certificates from “NewDomain” into directory in “OldDomain”, copied the administrative databases from “OldDomain” into server of “NewDomain” and startet the server. All worked fine.

I created connection documents between servers and got replication working. All servers can see each other and connect and replicate to each other.

BUT mail routning is not going so well between the 2 domains.

I can get mails to route between domains, but responses between domains get converted, so they no longer are Notes mails. This means trouble when I start moving users and some are in “OldDomain” and others in “NewDoamin” and they look up free time, invite to meetings, rescedule, send Notes links etc. So I want Notes routing to work.

Also server in “NewDomain” is not routing SMTP via the DMZ server. It says : “No route found to domain receivingdomain.com

When I load router on server in new Domain it says : "26-05-2008 10:14:40 Router: Connection from server DMZsrv/OldDomain not used; Server not found in Domino Directory.

I think this is because the Diretory Profile states that this Domino Directory is for “OldDomain”. But I cannot change into “NewDomain” since all users are in OldDomain, and we want to move peoople to “NewDomain” over the next 6-8 months. Therefor I would like to have 2 domains, so I can control who is moved, and who is not.

I tried recreating connection documents - no change.

I created 2 adjacent Domain document. One for “OldDomain” stating mailservername for primary mailserver and one for “NewDomain” stating name of the new mailserver. No change.

I removed the . SMTP document, to try and make mailrouting work in other ways. No luck.

Here is a funny thing :

After removing the . SMTP document and connection to DMZ The “Mail2/OldDomain” server failed on SMTP routing, so I created the . SMTP document and connection from “Mail2/OldDomain” server to DMZ server again. But the “Mail2” said :

Router: Connection from server DMZsrv/OldDomain not used; Server not found in Domino Directory

This really confused me, but I found I had created the . and connection document with the administrator ID from “NewDomain”, and this was causing the “Mail” server in “OldDomain” to refuse to use it!!!

After creating the . SMTP document and connection to DMZ again with administrator ID from “OldDomain” routing from “Mail2” to DMZ worked perfect.

I have never seen this behaviour before. Anyone seen this?

And do you have any advise as to what I can do to make Notes routing work correctly?

I restartet router on config change and server on Domain changes and this has been going on for 4 days.

side question : Would you move the “/NewDomain” certificate into the existing CA process in “OldDomain” to move users correctly, or keep a new CA process in the new domain and old certifiers in “OldDomain”?

Subject: Mail not routing between 7 and 8 domains

I think that this has something to do with the configuration of your domain documents. If you are able to email me at vrivett@rivettassociates.com I would be able to give you some assistance to get this sorted out. Or you could try to call me on skype - vrivett

Subject: I will use only one domain

HiAfter little success in sorting this out I decided to use only one domain. AdminP refused to move users accross domains : said servers users move from and to must be in same Domino domain.

I will change the Notes domain at a later time using this guide from IBM:

http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=463&context=SSKTMJ&context=SSKTWP&q1=change+domain+name&uid=swg21089340&loc=en_US&cs=utf-8&lang=en

Comments still very welcome.

Cheers…
