I have an interesting dilemma related to the Notes client and Rightfax gateway. We have been upgrading our Notes clients recently from 6.5.2 to 7.x and 8.x platforms. A portion of the 6.5 client base use a process that will send an email through the Rightfax LN GW (current 9.x release) that embeds a screen shot (paste it in the message body) of a terminal screen into the message body. This email will be transmitted as expected via RF GW to the destination. The mail servers are running Domino 8 and the ODS of the mail file is 48.
We installed the 7.x client at some point in time to these particular users. As a result, when the user goes through the same process in the 7.x client, takes a screen shot, pastes it into the message body and sends it to the RF LN Gateway, the image is not transmitted. The ODS of the database did not change.
My initial suspicion was the Notes client differences and after some research had come to the conclusion that the 6.5 client pasted image was inserted to the message body as a BMP file type and the 7.x client embeds the screenshot as a GIF file.
This does not seem to be the case in all instances as I worked with the vendor of RightFax, and he was unable to duplicate the problem when using the Notes 7.x client running on the Domino 7.x server (ODS 43). When he sent the message using the same method, the screenshot was embedded as a BMP file and transmitted through the RightFax gateway with the image. My vendor was able to duplicate the problem by doing an image import and embedding a GIF file to the message body that way.
However, I am now a bit put out as I expected that the problem was related to the Notes 6.x client versus the Notes 7.x client. Now it would seem to be a bit more subtle? Is it feasible that the problem is related to the Notes client AND the notes database’s ODS?
ps. Even doing a ‘Paste Special’ option will embed the image for the Notes client as a GIF file not as the expected BMP file type.
