We’re running Notes Client 6.5.4 on OS X 10.4.2 (just about to update the user base to 10.4.3). We’ve installed and run Notes without incident for a few months now. We initially had a problem where Lotus Notes simply refused to allow the selection of an alternate web browser (we do not allow Internet Explorer on our Macintosh network). That problem was solved in another thread.
Now, out of the blue, a new problem has popped up. Over the past three weeks I have received an increasing number of users saying that their default web browser choice has reverted back to Internet Explorer. Nothing has changed to our desktops, no updates have been installed on any of the systems, nothing at all has been done to these computers. On Monday clicking on links in Notes works fine and jumps into Safari, the very next day Notes complains that the web browser can’t be found, and sure enough… it’s trying to open the link in Internet Explorer again. Some users have had to reset their web browser choice 3 or 4 times over the past three weeks.

On the Mac Client, there are no additional options under User Preferences > Basics with regard to setting a web browser. It is only under Location Preferences that we have any option to set the default browser.

Check for code in an application the users have in common. Some yahoo may have decided that the best way to keep users from viewing links in the “Notes with IE” browser would be to force another value to the location document without checking first.
