1st things 1st … I’ve been with Notes from v2 … so I’m in no way trying to blast Notes…it’s been very good to me. My current employer is finally (after threatening to for several years) migrating to Exchange/Outlook. I am a grunt and have no say in the matter … I can look for antoher job but like where I work.
Can anyone give me any advice on what kind(s) of current web technology can do what Notes does? Is it Java, Ajax, Ruby on Rails, etc etc etc … not sure what to start honing up on. I think of all the things I do so quickly with a Notes db, setting up quick views, all the hide/when stuff … taking for granted that most of it just “works” on the web …
When I look at sites now that show much of the interface stuff that we do in Notes (hide when, collapsed views, etc etc ) how are they doing that? What’s the db backend? What are they coding in … etc etc etc …
I know it will take some time for them to truly migrate off the notes apps … but I’d like to see what’s out there and what I should be learning … I have looked at Sharepoint a bit and it seems like it’s pretty limited…
Thanks for any feedback.
