Ok, since my last message, I’ve upgraded to an Evo N610C with XP. I installed Notes 6.0.1 CF1.
Again, if I use my wireless NIC, I can’t get into Notes. If I used the ethernet cable, I can. Either way, I am going through the same router/WAP and still using VPN. It must have something to do with the Wireless Encryption…that’s the only thing I can think of…
The wireless card is a Netgear MA101 and the router/WAP is a Netgear CG814M.
Thanks!

Subject: Notes R6 via Wireless Problem
The encryption in the wireless connection shouldn’t be an issue since it’s en/decrypted at each end, and the Notes client/Domino server don’t see it.
I looked at the original post, and, if all other apps are still working fine, then:
Does it work without VPN? As has been said, all that’s needed is port 1352 TCP (not UDP). But if it works over the Internet via the Ethernet card, all that’s fine…
What’s the actual error message? ‘Server not responding’? The email date issue is most likely that you are ‘flipping’ to a local replica because it can’t find the server copy. This is hard to recognize without doing File } Datatel } Properties and looking at the filename/path.

I’m using an all D-link setup here with 802.11b 128-bit WEP. Having no problems whatsoever. Wired behavior is identical to wireless.

are you going through a VPN concentrator to get to your Notes server???
Subject: RE: Notes R6 via Wireless Problem
No, I’m not.
It’s my understanding that there’s some extra configuration required normally to get a WAP router to handle a VPN properly. But I’m no expert.
Are you able to do anything else through the VPN connection? I mean, is it just Notes experiencing the failure? Or are other applications/protocols affected too?
Subject: RE: Notes R6 via Wireless Problem
I can do everything but Notes. Very bizarre. I even get messages telling me there is new mail, but the GUI never loads completely.
When I plug in the Ethernet cable, it comes right up

Bob this is the exact config I use too - and it works very well for me.
What VPN kit are you using - hardware/software?
Subject: RE: Notes R6 via Wireless Problem
It’s a Cisco Secure VPN solution. Not sure of the model
Subject: MTU Problems?
I have seen reports of MTU issues that may cause the symptoms you are seeing. Wireless connections may be the MTU minimum - so when you use wireless the end to end MTU is smaller. If your client doesn’t adapt correctly, you can cause fragmentation.
You might want to make sure that your router and firewall allow fragments to pass, and in fact support fragments correctly. Some firewall software blocks fragments by default, for example. You can also try to use a TCP tweaking tool to set a smaller MTU in your client.
ping -f -l n server can be used to determine the path MTU by searching for the maximum n that works. You could at least see if it is smaller over wireless.
I have never personally had this problem and have never tweaked my MTU setting. I’m thus using W2K MTU discovery. I have no problem with wireless.
