‘The is not responding.’ … 'Failed with mail.bellsouth.net.'I have checked the servers (ATT Yahoo) and everything is working when I logon through the Web. This happened once before for a week and then strangely it started working again. I am using Windows 7 (32) and Notes 8.5.1 (FP2). The last send that worked was on 6/16/10 in the evening, later that night when try to foward a email, it stopped. I tried Outlook and won’t work either (send) with the same settings as Notes.
I have resent the IP Stack and tried every suggestion on the internet to no avail. Receiving mail works.

Any suggestions as to a fix?
-
Diagnostics, etc. recommendations? I have checked the log files and nothing shows up.
Subject: Some Things to Try
I am not sure that this first works on a Notes client, but it is worth trying. Add a line to the NOTES.INI that says:
SMTPClientDebug=1
That should greatly increase the logging of the outbound SMTP traffic (at least it does on the Domino Server) and you might see what it is that is causing the connection to fail.
Also, you can try running a telnet session from a command line to manually send a message to one of the target domains and, perhaps, get some more detailed information on the connection issues.
Have you had any luck sending mail from another mail client using the same return address? Just to check and see if there is an issue with either the sending domain or sending internet mail with that return address from some other server.
Subject: Notes & SSL
I finally had some luck with Outlook 2003, it works on two of my email accounts. I’m not sure that its all my problem with the laptop and Notes 8.5.1. It may be some changes to att.yahoo.com.I’m getting a ‘The Sever is not responding’ with the original settings that worked for years and a ‘Bad Peer Certificate’ (Port 465) or 'Invalid SSL Message (port 587) with the new settings. I’ve tried every combination that I could find on the Web and still can’t send at all from Notes, I can receive with old settings but not with SSL.
I’ve turned off anti-virus (F-Secure) email scanning, still doesn’t work.
Any suggesstions about the peer certificate?

Ben,
What do I do with the existing ATT account, it won’t let me edit or delete it? Can I add the same info in a new account? My Yahoo page looks different than the link you sent? It doesn’t have any place to change the SMTP port.
Subject: Re: Try This…
Not sure… you’ll need to just try what you can in the interface or ask AT&T for help with your account.
Subject: ATT
I spent 2 hours on the phone with ATT already today and they haven’t a clue. They wanted to blame my PC as no one uses Lotus Notes, been using it for 14 years on Bellsouth without a problem.I’ll try it, can’t be any worse than using outlook for sending and notes for receiving!
Subject: It’s not Lotus Notes, it’s their convoluted requirements to sending email through DSL
You can see how crazy that help doc is. It took me a few hours to get it completely working right, and you have to do email confirmations with the AT&T account. You basically have two options:
-
If your time is worth more than your money you can upgrade your DSL account to a level where you can send out email direct without using them as a smarthost and jumping through all their hoops.
-
If your money is worth more than your time, you will need to escalate your ticket until you get someone who knows what the heck they are talking about to help you with their help doc.

Any email providers that can be reccommended that I can use Notes with? I 've been using Bellsouth for the last 13 years, maybe time for a change.
