Hi,
A vendor told me that I need Notes Collaboration which has more functionality then Notes Messaging to run one of their CRM application for Notes/Domino. However, I can never find the product Notes Collaboration or Notes Messaging. Is there such products or there is only one product which is Lotus Notes?

The difference is not with Notes, but with the Domino server.There are three kinds of Domino licenses: messaging, enterprise and utility. The first does only messaging, the second does all, the third does all but messaging.

You can purchase Notes/Domino in 3 ways.
1.) Client and server licenses. Here you purchase a server license for each and every CPU running on your Domino servers, plus a Client Access License (CAL) for each individual user.
There are 3 server types:
Domino Messaging Server - lets you use email, calendar and scheduling, and the Discussion DBs and Document Libraries that come from IBM.
Domino Enterprise Server - adds to the above by letting you use any application (including TeamRoom from IBM) either developed or purchased, it also allows you to use Domino Clustering.
Domino Utility Server - For applications only, you can not use individual mail files on this server. The special thing here is that users accessing Utility Server do not have to have a CAL as long as they are accessing the applications via a web browser. Therefore you can extend your Domino applications to 1000 of users on your web site for example. Users can access applications with a Notes client, but they would need to purchase a Notes CAL.

Starting with 6.5.1 customers on active maintenance are also entitled to a restricted use of IBM Instant Messaging allowing awareness and chat within the Notes client.

2.) Complete Enterprise Option (CEO) bundles - Say you don’t want to count the # of CPUs you use, or that number goes up and down as you add/remove servers, nor do you want to track how many Notes users you have vs. how many web browser users vs. how many developers, etc. With CEO bundles you simply purchase based on the total number of users in your company (minimum 100) and you are then entitled to have as many servers as you want, and each user can use any of the client types.

3.) Domino Express - the perfect fit for Small and Medium Businesses. If your company employs less that 1000 people, you can buy via Domino Express. This is similar to CEO, where you simply purchase based on the # of users (you don’t have to count CPUs, etc) but with Express you do not HAVE TO purchase for every user in your company like you do with CEO. Instead you can purchase between 1 and 1000 licenses.
