Subject: XPage security enabled in beta 2

As of this beta, Domino runtime security is enforced for XPages, and is based on the classic requirements for running Web Agents. Setup guidelines are provided here.

Setting up XPages security for Domino

If you implement XPages, set up XPage application access to the sever and XPage Web user access to the server.

Setting up XPage application access to a server

The name of the XPage signer must have access to the server on which the XPage will run. To specify this access, click the Security tab of the Server document, go to the Server Access section and either type the XPage signer name explicitly in the Access server field or select users listed in all trusted directories.

Next, specify the types of operations to allow the XPage to execute on the server, as described in the following table:

Operations to allow

Configuration steps (Server document - Security tab - Programmability Restrictions section)

All restricted and unrestricted operations (as currently defined for Agents)

Add the Domino Designer login name or names in use when XPages are built to the Sign or run unrestricted methods and operations field.

(Note: Full Access Administrators named in the “Administrators” section automatically have this access level)

Any unrestricted operation, which excludes:

  1. these Java backend class methods:

Log openFileLog(path)

Session getEnvironmentString()

Session setEnvironmentVar()

Session getEnvironmentValue(SystemVariable, true)

Document sign()

Document encrypt()

RichTextItem embedObject()

EmbeddedObject extractFile(path)

  1. these Java methods:

file I/O

network I/O

native method calls

executing another application

  1. scripted Java in JavaScript

Add the Domino Designer login name or names in use when XPages are built to the Sign agents or XPages to run on behalf of the invoker field or to the Sign agents to run on behalf of someone else field.

Server JavaScript library operations

Add Designer login names used when signing script libraries to the Sign script libraries to run on behalf of someone else field. Only restricted server access rights are given to the library unless the name also appears in Full Access Adminstrators or in Sign or run unrestricted methods and operations.

Setting up XPage Web user access to a server

The XPage Web users must have access to the server on which the XPage will run. To give this access, click the Security tab of the Server document, go to the Server Access section and either type the Web user names explicitly in the Access server field or select users listed in all trusted directories.

To deny users Web access to the server, add their names to the Not access server field. In addition, click the Ports - Internet Ports - Web tab, and set “Enforce server access settings” to Yes.

To control which operations Web users can invoke through an XPage, add entries to any of these fields in the Server Access section : Create databases & templates, Create new replicas, or Create master templates. See the field popup help for detailed explanations of the fields.

Subject: Upgrade is not supported for Macintosh

Upgrade on Macintosh is not supported for this beta release. The recommendation is to remove previous installations via the provided uninstaller, and to install this build. Existing data will be preserved. If you upgrade from a previous version and do not uninstall Notes first, the following issues may occur:

You may not be able to access databases previously accessed in earlier releases. A workaround, if you have not uninstalled, is to log out of your Mac or restart the machine.

Full-text searching of the Help databases may not work. Rebuilding the index does not resolve the problem.

You will not be able to remove previously installed components at the time of upgrade. If you would like to remove a component like Sametime or the Composite Application Editor, you must uninstall and then reinstall Notes.

Subject: Uninstaller finds nothing to uninstall

I have notes basic 8.5 public beta 1 installed, and there is no uninstaller with the basic 8.5 beta 2 package, the fuller? version’s uninstaller doesn’t find anything to uninstall. Any advice?

Subject: Uninstaller for 8.5 Beta 2

Does anyone have the Beta 2 uninstaller? I don’t have the original TAR file and it’s not available for download anymore.

Many thanks!

Adam

Subject: IT WORKS!

Jan,

Thanks,

Subject: Works great so far on Ubuntu

I had to uninstall the original debs, but so far it’s working fantastically well. I’m really happy the security modules for xulrunner were implemented. Not being able to access https pages was a bit of a pain. Now I can really dig in to using Notes for my general browsing purposes.

So far I’m really impressed!
