Hello, I have a bit of a problem. Ive purchased x3 Notes (Express) clients on the IBM website. It took a few days to actually find out which package I needed to download. Finally we have the 3 clients installed on PC’s on our LAN.
When I go to File-Preferences-Mail-Access & Delegation. It currently says “No one has access to your mail file”.
I click add, a new window opens, from this window I click Just this group or person, then a new window opens, I can see local domain servers and other domain server.
Im confused about what or who to click here. I cannot see the other users on my network in this list. How can I select or find the other users on my LAN to give them access to my mail and calendar?
I have phoned IBM tech support on 08700101952, several times, one person has told me i “may” need a server??? the other 3 people have told me this is not the case, I only need the x3 clients?
Can anyone shed any light?
Thanks
Subject: Re: Access Delegation
Unfortunately, failing the existence of a Domino Directory (which would be available from a Domino server), selecting the users who you would like to delegate access to your mailfile will be difficult. To affirm this, you will find this to be the case for two reasons, 1. The location of the database, and 2. No user verification (authentication).
-
Without a server to centrally store a database for access, this implies that the users who you’d like to delegate access to will need to physically access your workstation or have a mapped drive to your workstation.
-
Without a server, users in your environment are not authenticating against a directory, so attempting add users to the ACL may prove to be inefficient as the software won’t know who the user is that’s attempting to access it.
I’m curious about your implementation in your environment. Are you using the clients as POP/IMAP clients or something similar?
Thanks!
Subject: Callendar and Mail Access
Hi and thanks for replying.Perhaps I should have explained our office a little better.
We do not have a server. We have a “FILE_STORAGE” PC that we use to store all our infomation and documents, this is what we use as our server. Our office is very small 4 computers. I had used notes previously at another place of work and thought it was great, hence me implementing it in my new office. Our main use for the note clients is to have our own email addresses (POP) which is working fine.
The problem is as a tech rep told me yesterday, there is no Domino Server that runs on windows XP (32bit).
The computers on my LAN all have access to one anothers drives (mapped).
Even with tis being the case I still cannot find a way to give access to other people to my mail and more importantly callendar.
Any tips on:
1)If i can create a database localy without a server?
2)How I can locate the other users on my LAN with notes in its current state?
3)Taking matters into my ow hads and “tinkering” I installed the win2003 domio server on my XP machine, it runs correctly, however no I hae it running I am still no wiser as to how to give access?
Thanks
