I have a user who gets the following two error messages each time he accesses his mail file:
Notes error: You are not authorised to perform that operation
followed by:
Notes error: You are not authorised to perform that operation(HPSettings)
Eventually, once he gets past these messages he can view his mail which leads me to believe it’s probably not an ACL issue. He does have Editor access to the db.
Can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks,
Dan

Just shooting the dark here, but need more detail from your user experience. Does it happem only on their machine, or only for the, Des it hapen when a Notes Admin opens up the mail file? Have you enhanced the mail file design? Is this on opening the Local or Server Replica? Is there a Full Text Index involved?
Have you tried REPLACING the mail file design or deleteing the replica and re-creating it. Also try signing the TEMPLATE and database with the appproriate ID
Subject: RE: Notes error: You are not authorised to perform that operation
The user is accessing a common mail file called Maintenance that is shared by a couple of users. AFAIK, it is happening on their machine. Haven’t tested to see what happens when they access the db from another machine using their ID. Good point.
I tried opening up the DB as Notes Admin and got no errors neither did the other users who also access that DB. The user is accessing the DB on the server.
Thanks
Dan

Just wanted to thank you all for your input. It turned out that the user did not have access to the bookmarks.nsf db on his workspace. Once I added him to the ACL as Manager, the error messages did not appear again.
Again, thanks for all the suggestions!

Take a look at their welcome page to see what that person is loading or trying to load there. If it looks odd at all change to another welcome page and try opening Notes again to see if that was the cause.
Maybe the welcome page is trying to load something it isn’t allowed to load. If that isn’t it then take a look at the Location Preferences to see if something is set there that shouldn’t be like connecting to a sametime server that isn’t there.

Jeffrey,
Thanks for the hint. A quick search on HPSettings pointed to the bookmark.nsf I’ll check to see if there’s anything funky going on with the welcome page.

I had a similar problem just the other day. It was when a user attempted to open an e-mail message that had HTML in the body. There seemed to be a corruption in her location document related to the browser selection. I changed the browser to “Notes with internet explorer,” saved it, then set it back to “Internet Explorer” only. The problem subsidded.
Hope it helps.

Hi,
Check to see if the user has access to his own bookmark file (bookmark.nsf). I have seen the same problem for two users and both lacked access to their own bookmarks.
