Notes doesn't start after Vista crash

Hi,

My Vista computer has crashed, and now Notes doesn’t start. It goes like this:

  1. I click on the Notes icon

  2. I get a message box for my Notes password

  3. The splash screen grey box at the top left corner says “Loading please wait”

  4. When it arrives at the end, the splash screen disappears and nothing happens

  5. I can see that nlnotes is running.

  6. If I stop it and restart Notes, the same thing happens

Last ime it happened (yes, vista crashes…), I had to uninstall Notes and reinstall it.

Any idea to avoid this pain?

Thanks!

Subject: How long did you wait?

After a crash fixup may need to be run on several databases before the Notes Client can start… When you view nlnotes.exe in task manager if it is using CPU you may just need to wait until it completes…

If that doesn’t work open a PMR with Lotus Support and they will help you gather information about the bad state of your machine that we should be handling better with error messages and eve better yet self-heal.

Thanks for your prompt reply. I uninstalled and reinstalled again. Next crash I’ll wait

Subject: Empty the workspace folder

Hi Jean,

I had the same issue some time back… when i searched on internet, i got the solution from a person’s blog. I lost the blog link and person name.

Solution is to empty the workspace folder from lotus notes data directory(C:\Program Files\IBM\Lotus\Notes\Data\workspace) and restart the notes client . it will work.but i don really know what happens to the workspace folder when the OS crashes.

Thanks to the blog.

John.

Subject: really annoying

Hi there

This happens really ALOT when windows crashes or does not get up from standby.

As i know u can wait 2hours it does not help.

IBM please try to find a fix for it.

To empty der Workspace folder does not work all times.

Only thing that always works ist to reinstall Notes (deinstallation is not needed and do NOT choose repair that does not work either)

Start setup → say Change → and klick tru setup and let it install again, thats for me the only workaround.

Subject: Crazy

Notes should handle a crash much much better than it does. Deleting folders so you can restart it is crazy.

Exec’s can’t be bothered with this stuff. Their answer will be to delete Notes off their workstation completely and install Outlook !
