Notes Directory Inaccessible

I am upgrading two users and have the same issues with both. Both users were upgraded to new laptops with our standard Windows XP SP2 ghost image. Image has been in use for 4-5 months and have had no issues with it. In both cases I take the notes folder that is created under each users profile, copy it to a network drive and move it to the new laptop after it is imaged and configured for that user. We have group policy enabled and the users are placed in the Power Users group. After copying the Notes\Data folder to the users profile using the admin account, I reboot and logon to the laptop with the users ID and password.

The first time I tried opening Notes, the splash screen appeared and then disappeared and Notes did not open. After a number of times this happening, I put the user in the Administrators group, reboot, logon as the user and I have no problem opening up Notes. I configure Notes, shut it down and open it again and have no problem.

If I leave the user in the admin group, group policy will remove the user in 1-2 days. When this happens, the user can no longer open Notes and will get an error that the Notes directory is inaccessable and can’t locate the users ID file. If I remove the user from the admin group the same occurs.

I have had this issue before but in the past, if I rebooted the machine and launched Notes each time and then remove the user from the Admin Group, I could then open Notes without a problem and Notes worked without a problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and sorry for the long message.

Subject: Notes Directory Inaccessible

hello,

I am not a windows admin expert - but it looks as if the data directory has windows access restriction. Did you look into the security tab of that directory (on file systen)?

Maybe the copying via a network drive did that…
