We are considering upgrading our organization to Notes/Domino 6.5 (we are currently running Notes 5) and had a question pertaining to multi-user vs single user with the 6.5 version. Can the Designer be installed on a multiuser client in 6.5? As I understand, this was not an option for version 6.0. If not, anyone know if this is a consideration for a near-future versions after 6.5?

I guess I am not what you want the notes client, designer, administrator to do?
Are you wanting to have one workstation which a user (non developer and administrator) is going to be shared with a developer?
I would say that is a high risk situation. I would not say it is a good practice to have a developer workstation be the same as a user workstation. These products are licensed differently.
Technically speaking if you have the designer client installed with the notes client you are going to get the prompt at login and you can change the user/location.

Why we want to do this is for 2 main reasons. First for testing purposes. We want to perform our testing on the same desktop client setup as our users. Our development & application support desktops frequently do double duty between development and testing (not an ideal situation - but what we have at the moment). The second reason is for our users who see Notes as a tool in addition to a development platform, where, with a little design knowledge, they can create a local database with a simple form and a couple of simple views to satisfy their business needs without having to wait for available developer time. For consistency and maintainability, we want to deploy one desktop image to our users where the Notes client would be setup as multi-user. In our pre-product review, we have tried to load the Designer on a desktop where the client was installed as multi-user. We receive the error message that states that we must have the single user client to load the designer. Therefore, my question. (I wasn’t sure if our test installation was incorrect or if the Designer requires the single-user client in R6.5).
