Notes data on mulitple volumes?

I am in the beginning of a virualization project where I am moving several of our physical servers to a virtual environment.

I am not doing a P2V conversion but rebuilding clean on the VM as we are moving from 32-bit Win2003 to 64-bit Win2008. I will then be installing the current version of Domino and then upgrading to the latest release.

I’ve been asked by my manager if it is possible to separate our the mail databases from the application databases by putting them on separate volumes. When asked, he said that would be like putting \Mail on the D: drive and all Apps on the E: drive.

I’ve never done something like that before, and I don’t know if that is even possible.

Looking into partioned servers, that is a different thing and from what I can tell it’s actually installing multiple domino servers on different partitions of a server. ANd besides, that’s if we’re talking physical server, not VM, correct? I don’t think that’s what I want at this time. We discussed having a mail server and an apps server, but for now they want to keep them on one server.

We have two servers that will be virtualized that both have mail and apps . One has all of the mail files from the remote servers we have as well and all of the apps as it is the one that is backed up at night. In addition, they want me to build a physical server that will be clustered with the second VM for DR purposes as it will be stored off site. If it’s possible to put some nsf’s on D: and some on E: then I would probably need to do that one the physical box as well.

Subject: you may use directory links

You may use the Windows ntfs junctions, or the directory links in Domino.

Subject: Thank you

Thank you for the link.

If I set it up like this, I am still able to run fixup, updall, compact against databases stored outside of the data directory from the admnistrator client or on the Domino console?
