Notes Client won't start - Splash Screen

We recently upgraded the LN client from version 6.5.x to 7.0.3.Since the upgrade we have been getting steady calls to the helpdesk with people with LN does not open.

The user logs off from WinXp at the end of day, comes back next day, logs on and try to get to LN. s/he only gets splash screen and nothing more. Helpdesk is directed to run NSD.exe -Kill or restart the workstation to get the clients up and running.

I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue.

I would start thinking that maybe names.nsf or bookmarks.nsf is corrupt.

Have you looked at the NSD?

Try renaming bookmarks.nsf and restart the workstation.

If that doesn’t work, get a names.nsf from a working system, rename the existing one, and restart the workstation.

And post if any of this helped.

Try Gregg’s suggestions.

Maybe you can use the Client_Clock notes.ini settings of the Notes client. Keyword : Client_Clock

It will help you with the client_clock setting.

Also, you might want to delete the notes.ini except the 3-4 first lines in the file. It will rebuilt the client’s configuration.

I have seen both KB articles. I have tried all the suggestion in the first one except rebuilding the OS. That’s not a option.In our environment the restricted users have full rights to LN app and user data directory. Therefore the 2nd KB does not apply.

I tested the Client_Clock starts logging after the client is launched. The problem I have is client does not open.

We also run Symantac AntiVirus on all the workstations.

I review couple of NDS -kill logs on some the trouble workstations and they have some process called “?”
