I have been updating users from 7.0.3 and 7.0.4 to the BASIC version of 8.5.1. I can’t get to many of the users so I give them the means to update the client themselves. I have a view in the NAB that sorts users by Client version and it’s tracking their progress very well.
However, when I called a user and asked why they haven’t updated their client (because it still said 7.0.3) they told me they did and it looks different than what they had.
So, I checked the logs to see what version they now log in with and sure thing, they have the new version.
How/when does the Client version field get updated in the users’ document in the Name & Address Book? Can I somehow force the client to update the NAB document with the current version the user logs in with?
I have only 1 Domino server 8.5.1 FP1 on the Windows platform. 70 users - 60 are showing correctly in the address book. Nothing special about the users that I can think of.
I’ve submitted and enhancement request that the ‘Person by Client Type’ view be updated to show only the latest client for each user - as the rest are generally meaningless.-
If you support this change, please open a PMR with IBM and reference SPR #CJON8MU2W9
Thanks, Erik, but I don’t think that’s it. According to the info in your first link, DCC is all ‘push’ from the server (no pull from client to server). So, DCC does not seem to be a mechanism for updating server info (the Client Build info in the server’s address book).
The home server should tell the client when there is a mismatch of version information between the person document and the current client version. The client will launch dynconfig to create a new request.
The request is only sent once. You can use DEBUG_CLIENTRECORD=1 in the notes.ini on the client to determine if the request has already been sent to the server.
It’s a bit old (6.0-6.5 era), but maybe it still applies. I suspect it is because this technote discusses R8 (and ironically tells you how to disable dynamic config)
