Notes client not launching after Smart Upgrade for MultiUser install

I apologize in advance if this gets a bit long.

I am in the process of testing the smart upgrade process to go from 6.5.5 to 7.03. Our desktop installations use the multi-user setup although in the majority of cases there is only one user on the system. This allows users to sit at another workstation if their own system is out of commission. Our laptop users have single user installations.

I have set it up that the kit will reside on the home servers of the users, and has been setup to use the SURunas.exe as our users are all setup as power users. When I run the test on a single user installation, everything works fine, the client launches after the upgrade although the icon and the welcome page still reference 6.5 and Notes 7 doesn’t seem to appear in the Add/Remove Programs list.

However, when I do it a multi-user installation it works up to a point. I get the prompt that there is a new version, it warns that this is a multi-user install, the download works fine and the actual installation works. The user gets prompted to reboot and does. When the user goes to launch Lotus Notes it flashes the splash screen and then does nothing else. Checking task manager shows there are no notes tasks running. I have left the system alone in the hopes that it will pop up the dialog box that it’s finished but, alas, no.

And if I uninstall and in order to reinstall and attempt the test again, just at the end it says “Error 1950.Module C:|Program Files\lotus\notes\nlsxbe.dll failed to unregister. HRESULT - 2147220472” and advises me to ciontactr my support personnel.

I’ve got a policy that points to the tracking db and it just doesn’t seem to be working either…

Anyone have any ideas please? What should happen when using Smart Upgrade on a multi-user desktop installation of ND6.5.5?

Thanks
