I’ve had this problem on 8.5, 8.5.1 and 8.5.1 FP1 (possibly on previous 8.x releases, I don’t remember specifically). At this point, it’s become to annoying to workaround. When I start the Notes client, it loads fine, but the location is set to “none” or blank and I have to manually set to Online or another location. I don’t want to use location prompting as I don’t need to change it much. I’ve deleted bookmark.nsf, cache.ndk, and even let Notes recreate my ini file. Same thing always happens. The client works fine once I set the location, but it doesn’t remember it between application launches. Any ideas?
Subject: Check local names.nsf
Check local names.nsf for all the location documents.
Subject: local names.nsf has locations
The locations are configured properly and appear in names.nsf. They appear in the lower right location bar of the notes client, but the last location is not remembered when I launch Notes. I checked the INI, it’s specified in the location line, which I’ve deleted and allowed it to recreate, same results. The location bar defaults to none/blank when I launch Notes.
Subject: conflict?
open the names.nsf and go to Advanced > Locations and see if there are any rep/save conflicts. If so delete it/them.
Subject: none
There are no rep save/conflicts.
Subject: Create a new names.nsf
I went through this with a user as well. Ultimately I solved the problem by renaming names.nsf and clearing the notes.ini of all but the first 4 lines and let the configuration process create a new names.nsf. From there I recreated the locations as I wanted them. I allowed the contact synchronization process to repopulate the contacts from the mail file. I copied the personal groups over from the original names.nsf.
Creating a new copy or new replica of names.nsf did not fix the problem.
Subject: Notes Client Location Blank/None
I am suddenly starting to get support calls from users which are caused by a location of ‘None’. All are from users of 8.5.1 on Windows 7 - the XP users don’t seem to have a problem.
