Hi. There are a few domino users who are unble to access their mail files because they client hangs after they enter thier password. All you see in the lightening cusrser and it just sits there…nothing happens then notes hangs. We have reinstalled the 6.5 client and upgraded it to 6.5.5. That did not solve the problem. We recreated one of the users and his client worked for a few weeks and then stopped working again. We even changed his pc and he still had the problem. The users are however able to access thier mail via webmail.!
The only thing i can think of is that some policy may be cause this problem. I have looked at the registration policy and it looks ok. Other users have been created with this policy and do not have this problem.
I am all out of ideas. Can anyone give me any ideas what to try next or what could be the problem. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Marlon

Maybe something got corrupted on the workstation. Try going to the user’s computer and running nfixup.exe (in the program directory) and changing the shortcut to point to notes.exe instead of nlnotes. This has helped when we get weird client startup problems.

Hi Marlon,
It’s one of those problems where you need to be there to try and solve it… The only thing I can suggest is that you try and open one of the problem mailfiles from your machine, If you have access. Does it still hang? Also try editing their location document and remove any PORT apart from TCPIP. I know sometimes Notes can hang if it’s trying to access on a different port.
Have you changed the design of their mailbox recently? Sometimes if they have a new design, the mailbox can take a while to open as it’s downloading design elements from the server.
Also try increasing the local cache for design elements. This can be done by right clicking anywhere on a blank area of the Workspace and selecting Workspace properties. Click the second tab and increase the cache size to say 500Mb locally and then click on Compact.
I’m not saying any of these will solve the problem, but they may help.
Mike.

In my experience, it was the bookmark caused by the policy. Replace the bookmark.nsf. If u need to keep the bookmarks on the bookmark.nsf, close the client, rename the current bookmark.nsf (ie bookmarkold.nsf) to something else. Restart Notes and let it rebuild a new bookmark.nsf. Go to ur workspace, hold the CTRL-Shift and right click the bookmarkold.nsf and go to ‘Database-Go to’. Look for ‘(Layouts)’. On the right side, you should see a document created by a policy. Delete it, rename that bookmarkold.nsf to bookmark.nsf and that should open up your Notes client.
