Notes Client Hang on startup. Unable to click tabs

Running 8.0.2 Standard config on XP.

I have a user who had shut down Lotus Notes normally with 5 window tabs open. Upon restart Lotus Notes loads up, but then hangs and the user can’t click any of the tabs including Home.

I recall a solution where you’re deleting whole directory to tell Notes to not re-open any pre-opened databases. Does anyone know which directory to delete ?

Subject: Try deleting the Workspace folder in your Notes data directory

That seems to work for me when Notes fails to load. You do lose a few configuration settings, so what I do is once I have started from a clean slate and reset everything, I make a copy of the workspace folder so that next time all I need to do is zap the broken one and copy the saved copy.

Subject: Yep… that was it…

Workspace directory… I should have known /facepalm.

For some reason I was fooling around with the framework directory… which BTW if you delete/change name causes your notes client to rever to basic mode… (Loads ALOT faster, but no sidebar widget thingy. Makes sense as that’s the “Eclipse” bit.)

Thanks…

Subject: better solution than deleting Workspace

Deleting workspace is pretty drastic, but it will work. I have found that if you go into the temp folder under documents & settings, (ie C:\Documents and Settings<user>\Local Settings\Temp

And delete XPDPLAT folder and any other folder beginning with “notes”, (in my case it was notesFCBCEE), it seems to release your Notes client and let you get on with life. Thanks for that IBM. You guys can’t write software…
