Notes Client Feedback

I really like this new client, hats off to all involved. While it’s not much different visually to 8.0.x it has a couple of nice new features: adding external calendars, the folder column in All Documents, the right click context menus are the business - compact yet functional, and the type ahead contacts extra functionality is also great.

I found that it doesn’t start as fast as I’d like, in fact it might be slower than 8.0.1. I’m also not sure if I like the percentage start-up bar - I feel on a slower PC it might go against the aplication.

Once it’s up the running however it’s much nippier and so far it’s stable.

Closing it down is swift and doesn’t leave vaious processes hanging about like 8.0.x does.

I’ll be using it as my default Notes client from now on.

Gutter selection which can be turned on with the last preference setting in the notes client configuration section, and other features like import/export/forward contacts improvements if you want to try.

Subject: Start-up

I agree about the % bar, don’t think it’s a good thing. It’s not accurate and will leave people staring at it when it’s slow to start.

And as for start times:

Initial start up is OK, but not great. Sit and watch the % bar, gets to some random point (seen 20%, 60% or all the way), then opens. Once open speed seems good and workable.

If I’ve had the client open, close it then try and re-open it I wait for the % bar to finish, which takes an eternity, then nothing happens - no client at all. I have to then double-click the icon again and Notes fires up (no login box or % bar). This seems like a bug to me.

Subject: Start-up bug

Like Dan,I’ve also noticed the strange start-up bug.

I’ve also noticed that if you append -sa to the program shortcut to enable the basic client, then fire up the basic client, close it down, then remove -sa and fire up the standard client; the standard client opens very fast that first time. After that it’s back to the same slow start-up.
