Notes client does not start

This was a problem I encountered in 8.0.2 and hoped 8.5 would correct. When I start Notes in standard mode, I am asked to enter my password but when the status bar almost completes, the splashscreen closes and Notes disappears.

I have found some posts about HOMEDRIVE, HOMEPATH and USERPROFILE paths being different, but these are all the same and the problem persists.

I am able to run Notes in basic mode but am missing the sidebar.

Please help.

Something to try

  1. make sure there are no notes processes running (nlnotes.exe, notes2.exe, ntaskldr.exe)

  2. go to windows explorer and rename the data\workspace folder to workspaceOld (default path is C:\Program Files\IBM\Lotus\Notes\Data\workspace)

  3. try starting Notes standard

Subject: Something worked

Bob,

Thanks for the suggestion. I started Notes and it did the same thing with the splash screen disappearing. I got involved with something else and after 6 minutes, the application started. I guess I wasn’t patient enough, though the administrator client opened immediately.

The application seems to open fine now.

Thanks again.

Yes - do be patient. If you do the Workspace folder, all the the .meta data needs to get rebuilt and depending on the machine speed this could take some time.). After the first time though, it should start much more quickly on subsequent sessions.

Subject: I had the same experience …

… when I installed the Notes client on my 64 bit Windows Vista. I resolved it, by not installing Notes to the default location (C:\Program files (x86)\ibm\lotus\notes) but rather specify something not in the “program files name space” (e.g. c:\ibm\lotus\notes).

This resolved my problem with starting Notes, but now I have this issue: http://www-10.lotus.com/ldd/nd85forum.nsf/DateAllThreadedWeb/2c870f4d33bdfb1685257544004c3096?OpenDocument
