Notes client 7.0.1 uses 100% CPU when opening a Notes document

Does anyone know why the Notes cients (7.0.1) uses 100% CPU when I open a Notes document?

Look like the CPU peek to 100% when the notes client tries to paint or initialize the form.

Some facts:

  • The database resides on Domino server which runs on Redhat ES 4

  • I also tested the database on Windows server by copying the db but got the same problem

  • I also tested with Notes client 6.5.4 and got the same problem

It’s not clear if you are saying the client or the server memory is being eaten here. In any case, take a look at how you’re re-indexing full text search for the database. There are some settings that re-index every time it’s opened, which if you’re using a lot of hidden views for DB look-ups… it can get really horrendously overloaded. Thanks Jan for the response. Let me clarify if:

  1. The database is not full text indexing.

  2. It is the problem on the Notes client 7.0.1

  3. I did not indicate any problem with memory, rather it is a problem with the Notes client when it opens document in the GUI. It used up almost 100% CPU.

  4. Most DB lookup are optimized ; therefore, I don’t think it is a factor. What I mean by optimizing these lookups is that there is only one actual lookup when the document or form opens, other lookup fields only parse data from the result of the master lookup.

The problem that I encounter is when the Notes client initialize the form and its subforms. The more subforms I embed in the form, the slower it is even though the subform has nothing in it or just one text field. The time it takes to initialize the form will double for every addiitional subform added to the form.

Example:

If I have 5 subforms in the form and it takes 1 minute to load/open the document in the GUI, if I add the 6th subform, it will take 2 minutes to open.

I really appreciate if someone from IBM who works on the client 7.0.1 provide me some explanation to this problem.
