Notes client 100% CPU utilization

I installed Notes 8.5 on a Window XP machine with Pentium 4 3 GHZ CPU, 4 GB of memory, and 44 GB of free space on hard drive.

Everytime I open Notes 8.5 client, it freezes the system at 100% CPU utilization. No response to any mouse click on the window. Tried so many times and finally give up.

Designer works at an acceptable speed. Please help.

Subject: which process is taking up the CPU and at what stage?

When it happens, which stage is your client at? Start up? Splash screen? Log in? etc.

Also, please check from task manager which process(es) is taking up the cpu.

Subject: Notes client 100% CPU utilization

Took forever in start up and then freeze there. No click, no response. Can’t even close it.

Notes process uses 140k and iexplore.ext use 207k.

CPU utlization is 100% utlized when Notes client runs.

Subject: what is actually using the cpu cycles?

There are different Notes processes running - notes2.exe, nlnotes.exe, ntaskldr.exe, soffice.exe etc.

Please take a look at task manager → processes and tell us which process is consuming the cpu cycles.

Also, when it happens, run nsd.exe and capture the logs and send us.

Thanks.

Subject: Is this an old bug?

I recently installed what I thought was the latest release of 8.5 and am getting a similar frozen screen with 100% utilization. It takes a full reboot to clear it. When I checked Notes2.exe was using up 250MB of memory. Sure looks like a memory leak to me!

I’m running a slower CPU (1.6GHZ with 2 Megs memory. I have a Notes 6 server running on the machine and the 8.5 Notes client. Any suggestions?
