Our users started getting messages 3 months ago that they had to renew their certificates by February 1. Here it is, February 1, and I’ve had phone calls from several who “forgot” to update their certificates. If I go in to Domino Admin, People&Groups, People, I can select the option to Recertify. However, how can I get the information to their ID which is stored on their hard drive? Especially since they can’t get into Notes anymore? Prior to today, they sent me the e-mail, “My ID is attached. Please certify it and send it back to me by using the Actions menu … option.” I would do that and it would automatically generate the appropriate e-mail with attachment to send back to them and then they’d merge it into their IDs (on their hard drive.)
After you recertify their updated certificate will be stored in the nab waiting for them. When they hit the server by opening a database or by just by using File>Database>Open to display the server’s db list then the updated certificate will download automatically into their ID file. No mailng or merging needed.
I might be wrong but I think since their ID already expired they will not be able to login therefore they will not be able to “hit server” and read updates from NAB, I think the only option is to recertify their ID files locally (backup file if you have one or get one from their workstations) and then put it back to local data directory… again I might be wrong
The server will answer even if your certificate is expired. If the server finds an updated cert in its nab it will push it to the client. If it doesn’t it rejects the client session. We do this fairly often with contractor accounts, who we like to keep n a short leash. The only time we ever have to handle the ID or a safe copy is when the public keys get out of sync.
