some of our users are facing the following problem:
When they receive a mail i.e. with an MS Office attchement (word,Excel,P-Point) the Symbol of the attachment in the mail is shown with this litte icon windows is using when it does not knows with wich program the file has to be opend.
Zip files are not associated to the winzip programm, so that the users every time has to choose the win-zip programm fromt the upcoming window.
We also tried the option “open this file extension always with the following program”, but that does not work.
This is very anoying to the users.
Does anyone knows what has to be done to have the correct program icons in the emails shown ?

I would look at the OS because I don’t think it is a notes client issue. Once again this is NT the LN client does not know that .zip is for winzip. It asks the OS if .zip is associated with an application.
If the user’s desktop was set to not associate a file extension to a program than best of luck.
In the cases it does not work, it could be a corrupt file or a trojan file. Any person can many any file have a file attachment. I can rename the file worddocument.doc to be worddocument.xls. And that file is not going to work in excel.
I would say if you don’t know who sent the file to you via mail don’t trust it.
Subject: just as an FYI… did you know that the Notes viewer can natively handle zip files
If you select view on a zipped attachment, it will show the file contents of the zip archive, you can then view those files directly, and even extract them… so Notes users don’t need WinZip
