Notes behaviour (with network problems)

Today one of my users had a small glitch on their Madge network card and could not start Lotus Notes as a result. They effectively lost their home directory. The error from notes that appeared was the usual one which indicates that the user already has a session open ( usually at home… ) but this obviously was not the case. After fixing the card glitch other users started to report that when they logged in odd icons were appearing on the desktop. When I took a look I saw to my horror that the “icons” were in fact files from a notes data directory (cache.ndk etc). After a of head scratching I went back to the user with the notes problem and checked his local notes.ini file and, lo and behold, the path set for the data directory was set to the desktop folder of our netlogon share for the group of users of which the user is part. All of our notes installs are the smae and the path is always same for every user.

Does anyone know the notes client’s behaviour when it comes to network failures? Why would the oath default to this value???

Thanks

Elton
