I’ve recently installed the Lotus Notus 8 client. I have my mail database opened and I have accidently clicked the wrong setting. I am unable to sort my email so my latest or new email messages show at the top.
I’ve had a similar problem in the past. I was able to get my inbox back the way that it originally was by clicking on the View menu, Customize This View, and then clicking on the Defaults button.
Keep in mind that if you’ve made any intentional customizations to your mail file this will undo those as well.
Do you recall what you did exactly? If you find that you can sort the view, but it does not keep that setting each time you open your mail file, then go to File–>Preferences–>User Preferences, and under the Basics–>Additional Options, do you have “Retain View Column Sorting” selected?
If that is not the issue, and you cannot sort your Mail File view at all, please respond to the following questions so that I may better understand this issue, and assist you:
If you open your Mail File on another PC from a Notes Client - can you sort your view?
Is it only your Inbox that you cannot Sort, or all views such as Sent View and folders?
2a) If some views can be sorted, which views?
Can you sort by any column, or just not the Date?
Do you have any customizations to your Mail Template?
4a) I would try performing a Replace Design of your Mail Template with the current mail template you have - be sure to use the Template from your Domino Server and not your Local Template. Was this effective?
How long after your upgrade did you experience this issue?
Are you running the Standard Eclipse based Notes Client 8, or the Basic?
6a) If you are running the Standard Eclipse based Notes Client, shut down your Client and go to your Notes Directory and launch nlnotes.exe. This will launch your Notes Client in the Basic Mode. Can you sort using the Basic Client?
Lastly, can you sort in any other databases from your Machine? For example, if you open another user’s Mail File, can you sort there?
Thanks Derek. I look forward to your response and will provide troubleshooting steps up upon your response.
